Farmer's Wife

Well, I've once again given in to peer pressure!  Actually it's just that I'm so inspired by all of the wonderful, quilty things that I see in blog land, that I just can't help myself.  I'm sure you've heard of The Farmer's Wife book and quilt.  I've had the book for some time and thought it would be fun to make the quilt, but I have so many other projects in the works that I just didn't give it much thought.  Then Randy from Barrister's Block blog decided to host a "Sow-A-Long" (to stay with the farm theme!) that I just couldn't resist.  Randy is offering instructions for 3 blocks every two weeks.  Only six blocks a month - I can do that!  Since I already have Dear Jane and Civil War Love Letters started and am making them scrappy, I decided to stick to a color theme here.  Any guesses on the colors I chose??  Yep...red, black and tan...my favorites.  Here are my first 3 blocks...

I love that red - it's a new one from Jo Morton.  The black I've had for a long time, and the tan background is one of the Primitive Muslins.  Today is the day that the second set of instructions will be posted, so you have plenty of time to jump on the bandwagon and catch up!  These blocks were nice and easy and didn't take much time.  I think that Randy is going to have us all link up at some point - I can't wait to see everyone's blocks and the different color choices.  Come on...play along!!

Have a great day!

  2. Your piecing is beautiful but then again you have had a lot of practice! I'll bet these blocks seem big compared to what you are used to!

  3. As much as I wanted to jump on the bandwagon with this, I just had too much else going on - but I love, love, love seeing how yours is coming along, Julie! I did buy Marti Michell's templates to start it whenever the time comes that I can find some time - lol! Can't wait to see the next blocks!
    Cheers!

  6. Yesterday, I attempted paper piecing a courthouse steps block that was miniscule (like your jewelry blocks). Oh my gosh! My frustration level was at 10! I did so much unsewing!!! But I did persevere and finally ended up with one block. I wanted to make a 9 block quilt to be framed. I don't think that is going to happen!!!

I have a whole new level of appreciation for your work. I always thought it was beautiful but now I know it is very time consuming and challenging.
