Cookie Day

Every year our family gets together at our house to make Christmas cookies and candy.  This year was no exception!  We started earlier this year and we got lots done. Above, Mom is showing Jessica how to use the cookie press.  And below she was on her own.  She did a fine job!
Then Johnna took a turn...

Here's me making no-bake cookies (sorry about the sideways pic!).  That was one treat that DH remembers his mom making each year - so we made them in honor of her.
Lots of treats finished...

One family tradition is making anise cookies.  My grandma used to make tons of these ever year and send them to friends and family.  We always helped - but she was very particular and really didn't let us do much!  But the kids each got to make a fish - she let us press the dough into the molds and cut out around them by ourselves.  Here are bunches of pics of our anise cookies.  I think they taste terrible!!  But I love to look at them. They have such tiny, perfect detail - it's amazing.

The girls took a break to work off some of the cookies they munched on...

DH taught them how to do a line dance!
The cookie-making gang (except for my SIL who does not like to have her pic taken and is BEHIND the camera!)...We are showing off our candy cane cookies - another one that Grandma made each year.
It was a busy, productive, and very fun day!  Oh...and the hubby made us lunch!  He is very helpful and helped with all the cookies and got us anything we needed.

Have a great day!!

  5. Wow--that is a lot of cookies!! I've never used a cookie press--may I admit that it is probably because it looks like too much work? Don't know about the flavor, but the anise cookies look delectable!
Cookie making at your house looks fun! : )

  7. Yikes - you all can make anything fun, can't you? ;o) Sounds like a wonderful, and memorable, day. And all those wonderful treats to boot! I agree on the anise cookies - my dad used to love them - and they look so amazing - but I'm not an anise fan (except, for some reason, I do love those little red hard candies!) Do you need my addy to send out a goody package??? ;o) Wishing you a week of holiday magic....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  12. I know that I'm so late on commenting, but it looks like you had the best time making those cookies. And the anise ones - I love those and just love all the molds that you have. My kids hate them so I've never made them. Perhaps I have to come to your house next year! :o)
