Road Trip - Day One

First I want to say that our trip to Wisconsin was amazing!  My friend Kim, and I hit the road early Monday morning.  Our first stop was Vintage Threads in Dyersville, IA.  This was a very nice little shop and I actually remembered to take pictures!

I think I bought a pattern and a couple of half yards of blacks here.
Next up was Country Sampler.  I was so in awe of everything in the shop that I forgot I even owned a camera!  What a great place - so different than all of the others.  I can show you some of my many purchases while I was there.

Sorry about the sideways pics - but I have been messing with this for 30 minutes, and I'm running out of patience!  I was even able to buy backing for Dancing With the Stars, for $5.50/yard.  They had some of the older French General fabrics on sale.

Our next stop was Mill House Quilts, where I again, did not take pictures!  But, it, too was a great shop - they have a lot of everything!  I even saw some Iowa Hawkeye fabric that I've never seen in Iowa!  They bought a nice selection of my jewelry - so it's great to have a new customer and that will give me the excuse to go back and visit them again!

Next we drove to Sun Prairie but arrived at JJ Stitches 10 minutes before they closed.  If you've been there, you know that is not enough time to take it all in.  So, we spent the night there and went back to the shop first thing in the morning.  I remembered to take pictures, can you believe it?!

What a wonderful shop with lots of inspiring samples.  I bought a few more pieces of black and these fat quarters of the flag prints - I'm sure I can use these in jewerly in the near future!

As you can see...Day one (and the beginning of day 2) did not disappoint!  I'm tired of fighting with Blogger, so I will post more in a few days.

Have a great day!

  1. Wow, Julie, look at you remembering to take pictures in two shops!! Isn't that a record of some sort? : ) (Sorry, had to tease.)
I think I want every single one of the quilts hanging in JJ Stitches. No wonder you had to go back. I think I got system overload just looking at the pictures. I would be in quilter's heaven there. I'm sitting here thinking, "I want to make that,...and that,...and that..." etc.!
Looks like a great road trip. I look forward to more photos when you are ready to do battle with blogger again!

  3. OMG - you went to the Country Sampler?? I am so envious, Julie! That shop is on my bucket list - I love everything about it! Don't you just love how they package their kits? Sounds like you gals had quite the tri! I can't wait to hear more!! On a side note, you might try switching to the new Blogger interface - it takes a tad getting used to, but I've had zero issues with Blogger since I switched!
    Cheers!

  6. I have been to Vintage Thread in IA, we found out we had relatives in Dyersville - the drive was six hours from Omaha, I did see quite a few barn quilts which were fun.
