Advice Please!

I am in the mood to do a little hand quilting, and I have one top that is all basted (and has been that way for a long, LONG time!).  Problem is...I can't decide how to quilt it.

I love this pattern - it's by Laundry Basket Quilts - and was a lot of fun to piece - but NOT fun to sew all together!  Anyway...advice...ideas...thoughts?  I've been looking at it for an hour and haven't come up with anything - please help!

Have a great night!

  2. OMG - it's a masterpiece, Julie! Hey, I made a pun!! If I were doing it on my longarm I think I would do a leaves pattern, but hand quilting - I think I would go with the Baptist Fans, too!
    Cheers!

  3. What about circles or a spiral design? That is a gorgeous quilt; and it is feeling like hand quilting weather tonight. I have done several Laundry Basket Quilts, and I really like her designs.

  4. I love this pattern. It is a gorgeous quilt, but when I think of hand quilting it my dominant thought is, "How can you avoid all of those intersecting seams?" I enlarged the close-up photo, but honestly, I don't even know how to describe the only thing I could come up with. How is that for a totally useless comment? : )

  5. Baptist Fans! That design works perfectly for two reasons: 1) The arc of the fans are a nice contrast to the linear shapes of your piecing. (I learned early-on that's what you should quilt - curves on piecing that's lines; lines on pieced and appliqued curves.) and 2) Baptist Fan is a great "traditional" design. Go for it!

  6. Spirals were the first thing to come to mind. Fans would be good too. I agree with what Linda says - curves for this one. Whatever you do will be great - it is already a beautiful quilt.

  8. Hi Julie,
just came across your Blog when Googling 'tiny pieced quilts'. I love the things you make, I do love tiny pieced quilts with a lot of different fabrics in it. Just saw your nine patch quilt in your shop, it's great!
Well, for the quilting, I should definite hand quilt this quilt, in straight lines from the middle of a yellow triangle to the middle of the next. In this way you'll get straight line in three different angles, and it's the most easy way quilting regarding to all seams.
I've made a reproduction of an antique hexagonal cribquilt using the same quilting, just take a look at my Blog: http://www.jeanneke.com/#post118
    Succes with the quilting!

  10. What a beautiful quilt - I can totally understand why you want to hand quilt it. I'll have to pull out my Laundry Basket Quilts book and see how that one is made - LOVE IT!

  11. Catching up on your blog--so much fun stuff going on! Love this quilt you made. Great design and all scrappy fabrics! I think a nice curvy edge to edge design would be good. Do you quilt or send it out?
